Around the world millions of kilometers of PVC drainage pipes are in use for agricultural and real estate ground drainage and so contribute to regulating the water balance of the soil. Quality control of standardized flexible PVC pipes is vital as nowadays also non-standardized products from PP and PE pop up on the market via hardware stores.

Drainage pipes from PVC according to DIN 1187 guaranty to conform to the following characteristics:

-          defined inner and outer diameter

-          water openings according to the field of application

-          tensile resistant couplings

-          limited longitudinal elongation

-          pipe requirements are suitable for automatic laying in the ground

Drainage pipes according to DIN 1187 that carry the RAL-quality mark are subject to a continuous quality control. This includes manufacturers own production control (MPC) as well as an independent third party auditing by SKZ TeConA GmbH in Würzburg. Auditing and external testing is done in accordance to the RAL-quality and testing regulations RAL-GZ 713/2 which will be documented on the pipes with and by the RAL-quality mark.

Despite their yellow color pipes from different materials than PVC are not conforming DIN 1187, also not their dimensions of water openings and diameter. By using non conforming construction products their long term usability is not assured and damage may occur on buildings and land.
